Daniel J. Headrick, MD
CEO & Medical Director
Daniel Headrick, MD, is the medical director and owner of Tres Vistas Recovery in San Juan Capistrano, California. Before opening Tres Vistas Recovery, Dr. Headrick served for eight years as the medical director at Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach, California, and eleven years as the Medical Director of Hoag Hospital’s Chemical Dependency Center in Newport Beach, California.
Dr. Headrick — known by his patients as Dr. Dan — received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles Medical School. He received his postgraduate certification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine in 1988 and became an associate professor at the University of California, Irvine Medical School. Dr. Dan continues his training and research in chemical dependency to stay abreast of current techniques and apply them in his work.
Dr. Dan dedicates much of his time to the care and treatment of his clients, overseesoverseeing their stabilization to make sure that they have a sound transition into treatment and recovery. Amanda Ferguson, LVN II
Program Director / Medical Services Manager
Amanda started working in recovery 7 years ago as a CNA. Over the next several years she became a licensed nurse and was certified in the field of Drug and Alcohol Addiction. As the Program Director at Tres Vistas Recovery, she utilizes her personal recovery experience coupled with her professional experience to oversee the Admissions, Clinical and Operational programs. She believes that acquiring passion in sobriety should be the top priority for patients at Tres Vistas. As an avid hiker and Crossfitter, Amanda uplifts clients and staff alike, helping them to reach their physical as well as emotional sobriety goals.
Jennifer Berger, LCSW
Jennifer is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earned her graduate degree from the USC School of Social Work in 2015 with an emphasis in mental health. She began her career working with the Orange County Welfare to Work Program providing mental health services to reduce barriers to employment. Jennifer has spent the last 5 years working in behavioral health programs at the residential and outpatient level of care, and providing direct service to those struggling with co-occurring disorders.
In her role as Clinical Director & Primary Therapist, Jennifer uses her knowledge of the recovery process to approach each client with respect to their individual needs while nurturing the physical, psychological and spiritual health of each client. Using an eclectic approach, she incorporates Person-in-Environment (PIE), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), family systems, interpersonal and solution-focused therapy along with Rogerian positive regard into her practice.
Outside of work Jennifer enjoys traveling, hot yoga, cooking and spending time with her family.
Maryam Kazi, AMFT
Marriage & Family Therapist
Maryam Kazi has a Masters of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy from California State University at Long Beach. She has been working in the field of substance abuse for over five years providing counseling services to those suffering from addiction. Her approaches include understanding thoughts and feelings from a cognitive point of view allowing the client to feel control over their life In a healthier way.
Mitch Schulser, CADC-II
Assistant Program Manager
Working in the recovery field since 2013, Mitchell Schusler is the Case Manager for Tres Vistas Recovery. Mitchell completed his advanced study of addictive disorders at Health Staff Training Institute and is a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor. Due to Mitchell’s personal experience in recovery, he is able to connect with our residents on a personal level.
As a native Californian and San Clemente local, Mitchell has a passion for rock climbing, backpacking, and surfing. Mitchell is also known for his service work bettering the local community through leading by example.
Dana Delahanty, CADC-III
Dana started her career in the recovery field in 2017 as operations staff for a local IOP while also managing a sober living home. She attended Saddleback College's Drug and Alcohol Certificate program and is a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor. Dana has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from California State University Fullerton and is currently working on her Master's of Science in Clinical Psychology at Vanguard University. Dana is a member of the recovery community and is committed to assisting each individual build on their existing strengths to live their best possible life. She was born and raised in Orange County and in her free time enjoys horseback riding, road trips, and spending time with family and friends.
George Hillyard, CADC-I
Case Manager / Counselor
George play an integral role here at Tres Vistas Recovery as a substance use counselor since fall of 2018, where he provided guidance and motivation to clients , as they transition into the IOP phase of the program and learn how to safely cope with triggers and overcome roadblocks as they build a solid foundation for lasting recovery. George has been a certified counselor for the last 3 years, prior to working at Tres Vistas he has worked in many different roles in the recovery community in the south Orange county area including program director, Counselor, driver, support staff, house manager,and detox staff. This wide variety of skill sets and “from the ground up” experience allows George to have empathy, and meet clients where they are at in the recovery process.
George has been an active member of the recovery community for the past 9 years and enjoys surfing, rock climbing, and getting out into nature with his wife and children.
Ryan Lamb CATC-II
Through his case management, Ryan Lamb is dedicated to helping other individuals find their passions and strive towards continual growth. As an EMT-B and CATC-II, he is uniquely qualified to lead the Adventure and Horticultural programs. He has led rock-climbing/mountaineering and backpacking expeditions, yoga and meditation classes, wilderness survival skills courses, has managed surf schools and has been teaching surfing for over a decade, and has enjoyed many other facets of outdoor living on his own time. Ryan assists with the spiritual component at Tres Vistas Recovery and offers one-on-one spiritual advisement. Ryan takes his outlook and experience and translates it into helping clients find and empower themselves.
Ottis Johnson, CADC-CAS
Family Recovery Specialist
Ottis has been working in the field of recovery for over thirty-eight years. He has been clean and sober for over forty years which gives him some unique insights into helping people transition from addiction into long term recovery. The one thing that Ottis has become acutely aware of is that addiction is not an individual disease but rather a family disease. Helping the addict to see themselves as part of a family that needs to be healed and learning what part they can play in the healing process is a critical tool in his work. He believes that involving the entire family in the recovery process offers the best possible outcomes. He has successfully created the Otis Loves You Family Recovery Program and he provides workshops and groups that create on-going support systems for the recovering addicts and their families.
Steve joined the Tres Vistas team in the fall of 2015. Prior to that, he worked for several years for San Diego County as a Counselor in addiction treatment. At Tres Vistas, Steve oversees the Operations, medication documentation and client transportation for the facility. In addition to being the liaison for all Resident Advisors, Steve is in charge of making sure the Evita house runs smoothly for clients and house staff alike.
He is an avid member of the Northern San Diego county recovery community and all-around outdoorsman. He also enjoys supporting his daughter in color guard.
Matthew joined the Tres Vistas team in the summer of 2018. Prior to that, he worked at another treatment facility in San Clemente as a behavioral health technician. At Tres Vistas, Matthew is our lead Resident Advisor where he oversees RA staff and the upkeep of facility maintenance. Overseeing these duties ensures that our Residents here at Tres Vistas have a safe and comfortable stay throughout their journey on their road to recovery.
Matthew is also an active member of the recovery community here in Southern California. His experience with the process of getting sober helps him to bring the compassion and understanding needed for his position in the company.
Chef Brian Zanella has over 20 years of experience working in kitchens all around Orange county. His journey started when he was hired as a busboy in 1998. He fell in love with the food scene and decided soon after that he wanted to become a Chef. He put in his time working for as many different Chefs as he could and eventually acquired the title of Chef in 2013.
In 2015, his substance abuse problem caught up with him and he knew that he needed to get professional help. After checking into treatment, he decided to take some time away from the kitchen. 2 and a half years into sobriety, he was fortunate enough to get back into the kitchen with a clear mind. This time his focus would be on giving back the gift of nutrition for people who are struggling as he once did. Today, his life is full of gratitude and compassion for anyone struggling with substance abuse. Tres Vistas Recovery has afforded him an amazing opportunity to combine his passion for cooking while helping patients get the best nutrition possible during their stay.
Jason Wahler is a Host, Actor, TV personality, and philanthropist who appeared on hit shows like MTV’S Laguna Beach, The Hills, and Celebrity Rap Superstar. After years of publicly battling with addiction, he appeared on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab. Since getting sober, Jason has dedicated his life to raising awareness towards addiction and hopes to one day change the public’s negative perception on this deadly disease.Through his hard work and dedication, the E! Network produced a “True Hollywood Story” featuring Jason’s remarkable transformation. Moreover, in 2017, he received the esteemed Faces & Voice’s “Voice of Recovery Award” in Washington, D.C. Today Jason’s goal is to be a part of setting a standard in the Treatment Industry. His direct involvement with the recovery community has changed his life and allows him to be a resource for thousands of individuals who need help but don’t know where to turn.
Steadfast, Jason works closely with media outlets, celebrities, young adults, schools, law enforcement, churches and athletes to promote addiction education and prevention through sharing his own experiences and stories of hope. He leverages his personal story along with his seat in the public eye to inspire his fellows struggling with addiction.
Jason’s exposure within the recovery community nationwide has been primed by partnering with key advocates including renowned MD, Dr. Daniel Headrick, a distinguished fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine; “Dr. Drew” Pinskey; and, Tim Storey, acclaimed author, speaker and life coach. Jason also serves on the boards of the Los Angeles Mission, The Brent Shapiro Foundation and Cure Addiction Now.
Today, Jason has embraced his passion for giving back and has aligned with The Red Songbird Foundation, where he does his part in the day to day duties as the marketing director and co-chair on the board. His goal is to take his influence and empowerment to a broader audience for a greater effect on the community. Additionally, he has partnered with Tim Storey to launch Supernatural Support, a program for individuals to realize their greatest potential and purpose through the guidance and direction of life coaching through the lens of recovery.
